IND vs ZIM: Predicted India playing XI for the first T20I
The India vs Zimbabwe 3-match T20I series will commence on 23 July 2026. On the same day, the first T20I will be played at Harare Sports Club, Harare. Under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership, the 3-time T20 World Cup winners are still searching for their first victory. Just a couple of days ago, Shreyas Iyer & co. faced two back-to-back series defeats against Ireland & England. They didn’t even win a single game throughout the tour. However, they want to change their fortunes in this upcoming Zimbabwe tour.
For this series, VVS Laxman has been appointed head coach for the tour in place of regular head coach Gautam Gambhir. It will be interesting to see how VVS Laxman will tackle the team along with Shreyas Iyer. It is a very important series for the men in blue. On the other side, in home conditions, like Ireland, Zimbabwe could also pose a significant challenge to the Indian team. Therefore, the defending T20 WC champions wouldn’t want to make the mistake of underestimating Sikandar Raza & side.
The management has rested several big names for this series, including Sanju Samson, the Player of the Tournament from the 2026 T20 World Cup. Arshdeep Singh has also not been selected for the T20I series. The squad features mostly young players, including promising talents like Prince Yadav, Mayank Yadav, Ashok Sharma, Yash Thakur, Prabhsimran Singh, Harsh Dubey, Suryansh Shedge, and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Among the experienced players, the team includes Shreyas Iyer, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, and Shivam Dube. Additionally, Rinku Singh returns for this series.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi might open the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma in the first T20I. It will be interesting to see whether Prabhsimran Singh is given a chance to open or not. Ishan Kishan could bat at number 3. The responsibility for the middle-order batting will rest on Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, and Rinku Singh. Harsh Dubey could play the role of a spin all-rounder, while Prince Yadav, Yash Thakur, and Mayank Yadav could serve as the three fast bowlers.
