The Indian team has arrived in Sri Lanka for a 2-match Test series. The series will commence on August 15. As the series is a part of the World Test Championship, the series will be very important for the men-in-blue. However, the Indian team suffered a huge setback ahead of the series as star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the series due to a knee injury. The 31-year-old cricketer has been managing injury concerns since the T20 World Cup 2026. However, he made his comeback against England in the recently held ODI series. He played the first 2 matches of the series, but ahead of the 3rd ODI, he once again suffered the same injury.

Now, Auqib Nabi has received his maiden call-up in the absence of Bumrah. Several former cricketers have been criticising Bumrah after his injury. Former cricketer Karsan Ghavri suggested him a long break to recover fully.

"Bumrah should take a break for five to six months or even a year, and get back to 100 per cent fitness. The issue is that he goes into tournaments even if he’s half-fit and then, due to workload management, halfway through, there’s a breakdown. This is unnecessary. Only if he can manage his workload throughout a tournament should he be included in the team," Ghavri told the Mid-day.

Ghavri also urged selectors to include veteran pacers Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the national setup. He believes that Bumrah’s injury is not a good sign for the men-in-blue.

Shami and Bhuvi have been playing consistently in the IPL without injuries and should return to the national set-up. Selectors should consider them. All fast bowlers face niggles or injuries, but Bumrah has been on and off for the last two-three years. He has hardly played an entire series. That’s not a good sign for him or for the country," Ghavri said.

The constant injuries of Jasprit Bumrah are always a major concern for Team India. Due to injury, Bumrah has missed a couple of major tournaments, such as T20 WC 2022 and the Champions Trophy 2025. Despite this, he is one of the best pacers of the national team in all formats.
