Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka won the toss and opted to field first. The Indian team got off to a poor start as their vice-captain Shubman Gill was dismissed just in the second over of the IND vs SL match. The duo of skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Abhishek Sharma then bailed out the Men in Blue with an impressive partnership of 59 runs. Suryakumar witnessed yet another failure in the Asia Cup 2025, scoring only 12 runs. However, Abhishek continued his terrific form, smashing a blistering knock of 61 runs off only 31 balls that included 8 fours and 2 sixes.

Sanju Samson contributed with an impactful cameo of 39 runs off 23 deliveries to raise the run-tempo in the middle-overs. Towards the end, the pair of Tilak Varma and Axar Patel provided a superb finish to help India put up an above-par score of 202 for 5 in their quota of 20 overs. Tilak smacked an incredible unbeaten innings of 49 runs off 34 balls while Axar remained 21 not out.

In reply, Sri Lanka got off to a horrible start as they ended up losing their opening batter Kusal Mendis in the very first over of the run-chase. But, the pair of Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera then got together, showing great temperament and skills to keep the Indian bowlers at bay with a fantastic stand of 127 runs. Perera got dismissed after scoring a fine 58 runs off 32 balls. On the other hand, Nissanka scored the first-ever century of this Asia Cup 2025.

However, Sri Lanka slipped off the pedal during the death overs after Nissanka lost his wicket for a well-made innings of 107 runs off only 58 deliveries that consisted of 7 fours and 6 sixes. After conceding 43 runs in his first three overs, speedster Harshit Rana bowled an exceptional 20th over to take the matters into the Super Over. But, it was Arshdeep Singh, who became the real hero for India as he picked two wickets in just 5 balls, giving away just 2 runs in the penultimate over. Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav finished off the formalities in the very first ball to help his side pick up a staggering victory.
