After a comprehensive 30-run win over the hosts India, the visitors and current world Test champions, South Africa, have taken a 1-0 lead in the series, and are now eyeing a historic Test series win on Indian soil. South Africa achieved their first Test series win against India on Indian soil in 1999, and this time, they have a golden opportunity to repeat that success. However, they have suffered a major setback before the match, as their Test hero Simon Harmer has been injured in Kolkata, and his chances of playing in the second and final Test remain uncertain.

According to reports, Simon Harmer is suffering from a shoulder injury. In addition to Harmer, Marco Jansen is also receiving treatment for a problem he suffered during the first Test. Both South African players also sought treatment at Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata, where Shubman Gill also went for treatment due to his neck injury.

The South African management will assess the condition of both players over the next 48 hours and then decide on their availability for the second Test. The second Test will be played on November 22nd at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

If Simon Harmer is unavailable for the next match, Senuram Muthusamy could replace him. Kagiso Rabada could replace Marco Jansen in the playing XI. The pitch in Guwahati is expected to be spinner-friendly, and Simon Harmer could prove dangerous for the Indian batsmen in this Test as well. The South African team is hopeful that Harmer will be fit for this crucial match. However, if Harmer is not fully fit, it will be a major blow.

Simon Harmer took 8 wickets in the Kolkata Test. He bowled two big spells in both innings (4/21 in the first innings and 4/30 in the second) and was named Player of the Match for his impressive performance. Against Harmer, the Indian batsmen struggled consistently, failing to even achieve the target of 124 runs.  On the other hand, Marco Jansen performed brilliantly in the match, taking 5 wickets (3/35 in the first innings and 2/15 in the second innings).

If South Africa wants to make history by winning their second Test series on Indian soil, they will need both Harmer and Jansen in the next cricket match.

To counter Simon Harmer and South Africa's other spinners, Indian batsmen are practicing hard in the nets. Sai Sudarshan and Dhruv Jurel were seen practicing with the same pads to prepare for spin. No Indian batsman scored a half-century in the first Test, and now India will be under pressure to save the series, which the African team could take advantage of.
