The Indian team has finally reached the brink of repeating history. The men-in-blue successfully qualified for the T20 World Cup 2026 finals after defeating England by 7 runs in the second semi-final at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Now, the Indian team will face New Zealand in the finals at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad, on March 08. This will be India’s 4th and New Zealand’s second appearance in the T20 World Cup final.

If the Indian team wins the finals, they will become the first host team to clinch the title. Apart from that, India will also become the first team to win three T20 World Cup editions and two consecutive World Cup editions. However, to win the World Cup final, India will have to deal with a couple of concerns. The biggest concern for the team is Abhishek Sharma & Varun Chakravarthy’s dip in form.

Varun Chakaravarthy was looking great in the group stage, where he took 9 wickets. But from Super 8 to the semi-final, he took only 4 wickets and also went expensive. In the semifinal, he conceded 64 runs in 4 overs, taking 1 wicket. After this poor performance, Indian fans are demanding Kuldeep Yadav’s inclusion in the India playing XI.

Abhishek Sharma’s struggle against the off-spinner continues in the semi-finals, also. He was dismissed after scoring just 9 runs. So far in this tournament, apart from the Zimbabwe fixture, Abhishek completely disappointed the Indian fans. If the Indian team management makes these two changes in the finals, then Rinku Singh and Kuldeep Yadav will be included in the finals. In this situation, India's batting order will be reshuffled. Ishan Kishan will once again open the innings. However, with the final in mind, India will likely make significant changes to their playing XI. In such a scenario, Abhishek Sharma's participation is almost certain.
Given the current situation, the team may consider including Kuldeep Yadav in Chakaravarthy's place. Other than that, the rest of the India playing XI is likely to remain the same.

Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson will open the innings. Abhishek will definitely want to improve his tournament by playing a big innings in the final match. Sanju Samson is in excellent form and will be expected to maintain that form. Following this, No. 3 will be Ishan Kishan, who has been India's leading run-scorer in this World Cup. The middle order includes captain Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Tilak Verma, and Shivam Dubey, who will ensure a good finish for the team. The team also boasts a world-class all-rounder in Axar Patel, who is the team's key player in all three departments. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh will be the two fast bowlers.
