IND vs NZ: Abhishek Sharma ton helps India seal T20I series over New Zealand
Thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s destructive century, Team India thrashed New Zealand by 6 wickets in the third T20I at the Hnry Stadium in Wellington. With this victory, the Men in Blue have taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the 5-match series.
While chasing 199, Abhishek Sharma smashed his 4th T20I hundred and led team India to a series victory. He scored 113 runs in 38 balls, including 9 fours and 11 sixes. He played with a strike rate of 297.37. He got good support from his opening partner, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old batter scored 45 runs off 19 balls, including 4 fours and 4 sixes. The duo added a 133-run opening partnership in just 7.1 overs. After Sooryavanshi’s departure, Sanju Samson (18 off 13) also maintained the net run rate. When Abhishek Sharma got out in the 10th over of the innings, the Indian team's cricket score was 178/2.
After that, the remaining batters simply completed the formality of securing the win. There wasn't a single New Zealand bowler capable of stopping Abhishek Sharma's explosive innings. For the hosts, Kyle Jamieson took 2 wickets, while Matthew Fisher and Mitchell Santner picked up 1 wicket each.
Earlier, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won third consecutive toss of the series, and invited to New Zealand team for bat first. Daryl Mitchell blasted 89 runs off just 52 balls to propel the hosts to a challenging total of 198. He smashed 5 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. Finn Allen scored 40 runs, Bevon Jacob contributed 39 runs, while Glenn Phillips amassed 17 runs. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel picked up 1 wicket each for India.
The next cricket match of the series will take place at Eden Park, Auckland, on October 30.
With the series already in the bag, Team India is hunting for a clean sweep, while the Kiwis take the field playing for pride.
