Indian young pacer Gurnoor Brar has been warned and handed 1 demerit point for a Level 1 breach of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct during the India vs England first ODI match at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Tuesday.

He was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to throwing a ball, or any piece of cricket equipment, at or near another player in a manner considered inappropriate or potentially dangerous during an international match. He has also been handed one demerit point since it was his first offence in 24 months.

Actually, during the match, when he was bowling the 8th over of the innings. Ben Duckett hit a four and a six in 3 deliveries. After this, he bowled the fifth ball as a dot, but when he collected the fifth ball in the follow-through, he threw the ball towards Duckett.

On-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns, third umpire Sam Nogajski, and fourth official Russell Warren levelled the charge. There was no need for a formal hearing after Gurnoor Brar accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson, match referee.

Notably, a Level 1 breach under the ICC Code of Conduct carries a minimum punishment of an official reprimand and a maximum fine of 50% of a player's match fee, along with one or two demerit points. If a player accumulates four or more demerit points within 24 months, they are converted into suspension points, which can lead to a ban.

Gurnoor Brar played a crucial role in India’s victory. He dismissed both England openers. He took 2 wickets and conceded 61 runs in 9 overs. Unfortunately, when he came to deliver the last over, he was seen in discomfort in his thigh, which caused him not to complete his 10-over quota.
