At the end of the first session of the first Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, India have scored 92/2 in 25.4 overs. It would have been 91/0 if not for those last six deliveries of that session. KL Rahul was guilty of a lapse in concentration as he got out after playing an otherwise flawless knock of 47 off 78. Sai Sudharsan came in at three and England were quick to place a leg slip and then a leg gully. Stokes bowled one down the leg side and the southpaw was caught down leg. His first Test innings ended without a run being scored.

However, before those last six balls, India were right on top. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal were brilliant against the new ball. Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse took the new ball for England and tested the Indian duo with different lengths. However, both the openers left the ball well and pounced on anything too full. Yashasvi was exquisite with his drives down the ground, while KL Rahul gave a glimpse of fine technique with his drives through covers when bowled full and swinging.

KL Rahul creamed eight fours during his knock and was on course to play a big one but it wasn't to be. Yashasvi Jaiswal, however, remained unscathed and was unbeaten on 42 off 74. The southpaw looked in some trouble while trying to cut the ball hard on the off side as the extra bounce troubled him but he was fortunate enough not to find an edge.

England couldn’t pick a single wicket in the first ten overs and it further highlights the lack of quality they have in the bowling for this Test. Josh Tongue proved expensive in his first spell and Ben Stokes brought him on in the first session itself. He eventually found the breakthrough in the form of Sai Sudharsan.
