IND vs AFG: BCCI announces India squad for the Afghanistan series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s T20I squad for the 3-match T20I series against Afghanistan. For the series, T20 World Cup 2026 player of the tournament, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, and veteran pacer Jasprit Bumrah are returning. However, whether he plays depends on his fitness.

The series will commence on September 13. Following this, the 2nd and third T20Is will be held on September 15 and 17, respectively. All three matches will be conducted at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. 

Shreyas Iyer will lead the side, while Tilak Varma will be his deputy. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also retained his spot in the squad. He smashed two half-centuries in his last tour against Zimbabwe. Apart from them, Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh will also feature in the series. The squad also includes all-rounders like Washington Sundar, Nitishkumar Reddy, and Harshit Rana; however, whether they will play depends on their fitness.

Hardik Pandya is not included in the squad due to his fresh niggle injury. Prince Yadav will miss the series after Jasprit Bumrah and Harshit Rana’s inclusion in the squad. Suryansh Shedge is also not a part of the squad. 

This will be the last series of the Indian team before the Asian Games 2026. After this series, both teams will fly to Japan for the upcoming major event of the year.
