ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024: How Ravindra Jadeja Performed In Last T20 World Cup?

It would not be wrong to say that Ravindra Jadeja is one of the best players in the world, who can bat as well as bowl some crucial overs with the ball with his all-round ability. Jadeja has been part of the Indian team since 2009, where he has played a crucial role in winning different matches for the Indian team in all three formats. After being picked in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup, he was unable to play in the tournament due to injury and couldn't help the Indian team in the final stage of the league. However, he was very impressive in the 2021 T20 World Cup, which was to be played in Australia, but due to Covid getting shifted to the closed grounds of  UAE and Oman, where the Australian team emerged victorious after defeating New Zealand by 8 wickets.

After Jadeja’s impressive performance from the Indian team, the expectation of the Indian fans will be high from him looking to the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be starting in just 2 days and one of the main reasons is that Jadeja will be representing the Indian team fourth time in the ICC T20 World Cup tournament after debuting in 2009.  So far, after playing 8 editions of the league, the Indian team has just won the title once, that too in 2007 under the leadership of former Indian cricketer MS Dhoni by defeating Pakistan in the finals. Since then, Men in Bleue have reached final and semi-final several times but were unable to lift the converted trophy once. Looking at the 35-years cricketer’s age it could be the last tournament for Bapu in the shortest format of the game and he will definitely try to finish it with high notes.

Jadeja is considered as one of the important players in the Indian Premier League who has played a crucial role in the Chennai-based franchise by becoming the 4th bowler who has got most wickets in IPL playoffs.

Throwing light on this, let’s talk about Jadeja’s performance in the last T20I World Cup. After getting selected for the squad of 2022 ODI World Cup, Jadeja was unable to play a match due to his ankle injury. However, during the  2021 T20 World Cup, he was part of the  Indian team, which failed to reach the knockout stage after losing the game against Arch-rivals Pakistan and New Zealand in the group stage.

Ravindra Jadeja has represented the Indian team 22 times in the World Cup since his first T20 World Cup in 2009, where the Indian team crashed out of the Super 8s after losing all three of their games. After Ravichandran Ashwin, the left-arm spinner, has been India’s second-highest wicket-taker at the T20 World Cups.

Despite playing 4  T20 World Cups till now, his record at the World Cups hasn’t been so impressive. The 35-year-old has batted in nine innings for India and has an underwhelming strike-rate of just 97. However, knowing it could be his last 20 over ICC tournament, he will be playing an important role for the Indian team.

However, before the start of the group stage matches, the India team will be seen playing a warm-up game against Bangladesh at New York Cricket Stadium to get ready for the main event by playing warm-up games against each other in the USA and West Indies.  India will be playing their first T20 International match after January 2024. The last T20I game they played was against Afghanistan, after the Indian team played a 5-match Test Series against England and took part in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League from their respective franchise.
