'I told him to..."- Jofra Archer reveals what he said to Pant at taking his wicket at Lord's
Jofra Archer and Rishabh Pant have had pretty interesting battles in the past. Archer is currently one of the best fast bowlers in the world but Pant has managed to get the better of him on numerous occasions. However, in the third Test between England and India at Lord’s, Archer bowled a beauty, which saw Rishabh Pant’s off-stump flying back towards the keeper, leaving India in all sorts of trouble on the fifth day of the Test match.
The day began with Pant scoring two boundaries off Archer. One of them was bowled down the leg side and it was pretty easy for Pant to guide it to fine leg for a four. But the other one saw Pant charging down the track and smashing him past mid-on for a boundary. However, Jofra Archer responded with, arguably, the best ball of the match. A fiery delivery angling in at good length but straightened after pitching. The off-stump went flying as disappointment surrounded Pant’s face. Jofra Archer turned towards him after the dismissal and gave him an animated send-off.
Following the Lord’s Test win, England’s former skipper Stuart Broad asked him about what he said to Pant following his dismissal. Archer, who was quite animated in his celebrations on the fifth day, said:
“It wasn’t a proud moment but I just told him to charge that.”
"I told him CHARGE THAT!" 👊

Pant didn’t look to step out on that delivery but rather looked to block it. The ball nipped away slightly after pitching and that led to his undoing. Following Pant’s wicket, India lost KL Rahul and Washington Sundar in quick succession. Three wickets in the first session put India on the back foot. But, Ravindra Jadeja toiled hard, putting on a fine display of resistance.
He played a brilliant knock of 61 off 181 deliveries and was well supported by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. India managed to grind it out throughout the second session but gave England a mighty scare. But, in the end, they fell 22 runs short of the target. England, meanwhile, took a 2-1 lead following the win with two Tests left to be played. The fourth Test starts from July 23 in Manchester.
