How can India qualify for the WTC 2027 Finals?

The Indian Team is set to play a 2-match Test series against Sri Lanka from August 15. The BCCI announced a 15-man squad for the upcoming tour. With the start of this series, the Indian team will once again set its sights on reaching the World Test Championship 2027 final. The Men in Blue currently stand in 5th position, with 4 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw. Shubman Gill & side currently holds 48.15% PCT in the points table. 

So far, Team India has played three series, resulting in one win against West Indies 2-0, one loss against South Africa 0-2, and one draw against England 2-2. India still has three more series to play, and from this point on, every match has become a 'do-or-die' situation for the team.

Team India currently finds itself in a difficult situation after losing the home series against South Africa. Team India will have to play 9 more matches in the current World Test Championship 2027. The first series will be against Sri Lanka; then the men in blue will tour New Zealand in December, where they will play another 2-match test series. To qualify for the WTC Final 2027, they will likely need a PCT of somewhere between 64 and 68 per cent. To achieve this, India will have to win at least 7 matches out of the remaining 9 games. New Zealand and Australia are looking like superior sides to Sri Lanka. It means India will have to defeat Sri Lanka by a margin of 2-0. However, it will not be easy to defeat Sri Lanka in home conditions. 

The first Test match between India and Sri Lanka will be played at Galle International Stadium, Galle, from August 15 to 19. While the second match will take place at Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo, from August 23 to 27.
