The five-time IPL champions, Chennai Super Kings, are set to play their final league match of IPL 2026 against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 21. Following their defeat against SRH in their previous match, CSK has now lost the opportunity for direct qualification and has become dependent on the results of other teams. However, before any of that, CSK must win their final match against the Gujarat Titans at all costs. If CSK loses this match, they will be officially eliminated from the playoffs race, becoming the third team to be knocked out; conversely, in the event of a victory, their fate will hinge on the outcomes of the next few matches. In this article, we will explore the IPL 2026 playoffs qualification scenarios for the Chennai Super Kings.

CSK IPL 2026 playoffs qualification scenario

If the Chennai Super Kings defeat the Gujarat Titans by a margin of more than 20 runs or with 2 to 3 overs to spare, they will provisionally climb to the fourth spot on the points table with 14 points. However, winning the match against GT will not be easy. Shubman Gill & co. also want to win this match and finish the league stage in the top 2.

If CSK beat GT with a significant margin, then CSK fans will have to hope that the Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Kolkata Knight Riders—all three teams—lose their respective final matches. If any one of these three teams succeeds in winning their final match, CSK will be officially eliminated.

In case CSK won the game by a very close margin, then CSK fans will hope that RR loses their final game against MI by a significant margin.

The Punjab Kings will face the Lucknow Super Giants on May 23; the Rajasthan Royals will take on the Mumbai Indians in an afternoon fixture on May 24; while later that same evening, the final match of the league stage will be played between the Delhi Capitals and the Kolkata Knight Riders. Currently, the CSK team sits at the 7th position on the points table with 12 points from 13 matches.

  • beat GT by a significant margin
  • LSG to beat PBKS
  • MI to beat RR
  • DC to beat KKR

CSK's destiny has slipped out of their hands, yet in the game of cricket, predicting anything remains incredibly difficult. CSK fans must surely be eager to see Ruturaj Gaikwad & Co. register a big win today.

So far, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Gujarat Titans have advanced to the playoffs, while 5 teams (Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals) are battling for the last spot. Whichever team seals the 4th spot will play the eliminator.
