The 18th season of the Indian Premier League is currently underway and the popularity of the tournament is increasing with each passing year. Cricket fans all over the world wait an entire year to witness their favourite stars come together and entertain in the most competitive cricket league in the world. Over the years, we have seen some legendary players exhibit masterclass performances in the tournament. Brendon McCullum of New Zealand announced the arrival of the Indian Premier League as he scored a breathtaking knock of 158 runs in just 73 balls for Kolkata Knight Riders in the first game of its inaugural edition. 

There have been numerous such knocks being played by several batters in the league, since. The pitches laid out across different cities in the Indian Premier League don't pose a lot of threat to the batters, who have enjoyed batting, over the years. Recently, the second game of the ongoing IPL 2025 proved to be one such occasion when the batters went hammers and tongs at the opposition. Batting first, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a massive total of 286 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets in the first innings against Rajasthan Royals at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. On several instances, the teams have posted gigantic scores in the Indian Premier League.

Highest score by a team in the IPL history: 

1.  SRH: 287/3 vs RCB in IPL 2024

Sunrisers Hyderabad not only have an IPL trophy in their cabinet but also hold the record for posting the highest-ever score in the history of the tournament. The 30th match of the IPL 2024 saw SRH make a mockery of RCB’s bowling unit at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. 

On a batting-friendly track, Sunrisers Hyderabad showcased a masterclass performance with the bat. Openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma laid the foundation with a 108-run partnership in eight overs. The latter got out for 34 off 22, but coming in next H Klaasen continued the momentum. Travis Head went on to score a match-winning century, amassing 102 off just 41 deliveries at a strike rate of 248. Heinrich Klaasen too was unstoppable as he blazed his way to 67 off 31. Later, Aiden Markram (32 off 17) and Abdul Samad (37 off 10) laid the final flourish with unbeaten cameos. 

2. SRH: 286/6 vs RR in IPL 2025 

As mentioned above, SRH was nothing short of phenomenal in their first game of the IPL 2025. This time around, it was Rajasthan Royals, who were at the receiving end. Travis Head, once again, was brilliant for his 67 off 31 but it was Ishan Kishan, who stole the limelight with his outstanding knock of 106 runs off 47 balls. Courtesy of his sensational hundred, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a gigantic score of 286 runs and won the game by 44 runs, in the end. 

3. SRH: 277/3 vs MI in IPL 2024 

There is no denying that Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batting was one of the highlights of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League. They showcased an outrageous hitting display and, perhaps, set a new benchmark in setting up totals up front. After posting a 204-run total against KKR in their first game of the season, SRH went on a carnage against the five-time champion Mumbai Indians. After Mayank Agarwal got out early, Abhishek Sharma (63 off 23) joined hands with Head (62 off 24) and smashed bowlers to all parts of the ground. The duo set the platform and it was followed with scintillating knocks from Aiden Markram (42) and Heinrich Klaasen (80). 

Sunrisers Hyderabad went on to post a huge score of 277 and in reply, Mumbai Indians managed 246, falling 31 runs short of the target. 

4. KKR: 272/7 vs DC in IPL 2024

Kolkata Knight Riders' best batting performance in IPL 2024 came against Delhi Capitals on a batting paradise in Visakhapatnam. Sunil Narine (85 off 39), began the onslaught with his free-flowing batting, coupled with a classy knock from Angriksh Raghuvanshi (54 off 27). Later, quick-fire cameos from Andre Russell (41 off 19) and Rinku Singh (28 off 8) enabled Kolkata Knight Riders to post a massive score of 272 for 7- the fourth-highest team total in IPL. Delhi Capitals, in reply, were bowled out for 166. 

5. SRH: 266/7 vs DC in IPL 2024 

Affer posting 277 vs MI and 287 vs RCB, the Sunrisers Hyderabad produced another batting feast against Delhi Capitals in the 35th match of the Indian Premier League. Once again, it was Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, who led the charge with the bat. 

Head blazed his way to 89 off 32 balls, including 11 fours and 6 sixes, while Abhishek Sharma produced a breathtaking knock of 46 off just 12 deliveries, an innings which was laced with six sixes. Shahbaz Ahmed finished off the innings with an unbeaten knock of 59 runs in 29 deliveries, striking at 203.45. SRH won that game by 44.
