Here are five unknown facts about Anshul Kamboj

News coming in from the Indian camp now is that pacer Anshul Kamboj has been roped in as cover to the Indian squad for the ongoing England tour, with injuries to Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh. Both pacers suffered training injuries and have been ruled out of the tour, while Nitish Reddy also remains a massive doubt after picking up a serious knee injury. While this is bad news for India as Akash Deep was bowling with great rhythm. However, one man’s loss is another profit, as the injury has paved a way for promising pacer Anshul Kamboj, who has been added to the Indian roster. The tall pacer has a strong possibility of playing in the Manchester test now.

Here’s a look at five unknown facts about Anshul Kamboj: 

1. Considers Glenn McGrath as his inspiration

In an interview given to Times of India last year, Anshul Kamboj revealed that he considered Glenn McGrath as his cricketing role model. He was fascinated primarily by McGrath’s consistency with lines and lengths, and ability to hit the right seam to unsettle batters. Kamboj incidentally was part of a camp organised by MRF pace foundation in 2018 at Lahli, when he met his idol Glenn McGrath for the first time. 

2. Picked 10 wickets in an innings

In the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season, Anshul Kamboj created history as he became just the third player to pick 10 wickets in an innings, forever etching his name in the record books. Playing for Haryana at Rohtak against Kerala, Kamboj was at his fiery best as he managed to dismiss all ten of Kerala’s batters on a fairly flat bowling surface. He ended with figures of 10/49, in a career altering moment for the young speedster. The game ended as a draw, but Kamboj made a buzz in the cricketing circles with his fiery bowling. 

3. Anshul Kamboj won his maiden Vijay Hazare season

Anshul Kamboj played an integral role in Haryana winning their maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2023-24. He bowled consistently throughout the tournament, playing all games for his state side and constantly being a thorn amongst opposition batters. Kamboj ended up picking 17 wickets in 10 matches, ending with a bowling average of 16. He had best figures of 4/30, as Haryana scripted some domestic history. 

4. Anshul Kamboj has played for Mumbai Indians 

The consistent performances at the 2023-24 Vijay Hazare Trophy caught the eye of Mumbai Indians, who roped him in for the 2024 IPL season. Kamboj played three matches for Mumbai Indians in the 2024 IPL season, picking up two wickets in the competition. While most remember Anshul Kamboj for his exploits with Chennai Super Kings during the 2025 IPL season, not many know that it was actually Mumbai Indians, who gave him his first opportunity.

5. Record partnership holder for India A

While Anshul Kamboj is known more for his hit the deck seam bowling, he can also be a handy batter lower down the order. Anshul Kamboj the batter was in full swing recently as he got a record partnership with India A against England Lions, just a few days prior to the start of the senior England tour.  

Batting alongside Tanush Kotian, Anshul Kamboj stitched a partnership of 149, as he remained unbeaten on 51. India A were in the ascendancy throughout that game, but it eventually ended as a draw with England Lions were 32/3 at the close of play. Kamboj and Kotian usurped the record from Cheteshwar Pujara and Jaskaran Buttar, who added 137 runs against West Indies A in 2010.
