Harry Brook becomes the new No.1 Test batter in the world

As per the latest ICC Test rankings, Harry Brook has become new number one Test batter in the world. Brook has taken the throne from Joe Root, thanks to his 158 in the first innings of the second Test against India in Birmingham. With 886 rating points, Harry Brook is now positioned at no. one spot in the ICC Test batting rankings. Joe Root, meanwhile, has slipped to the second spot with 868 points to his tally. New Zealand’s batter Kane Williamson continues to occupy the third spot with 867 rating points, followed by Yashasvi Jaiswal (858) and Steve Smith (813) at fourth and fifth spots, respectively. 

Shubman Gill set the stadium alight with his double-century in the Edgbaston Test. He followed it up with another century in the second innings. In just a single Test, he hammered 430 runs and it has helped him jump 15 spots to take the sixth spot in the ICC Test batting rankings. Rishabh Pant, interestingly, has slipped one spot to eighth with 790 rating points. Jamie Smith has had a great outing with the bat in the Test series against India so far. His batting exploits in the second Test have helped him jump 16 places to occupy the number 10 spot in the ICC rankings. 

For the unversed, Australia is currently the number one-ranked Test side, followed by South Africa and England at second and third spots, respectively. The Indian team currently occupy the fourth spot in the ICC Test team rankings. Following his sensational 367-run knock in the second Test against Zimbabwe, Wiaan Mulder jumped 12 spots to take the number three position in the ICC Test all-rounders rankings. Joe Root has moved one spot up to number seven position.

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is currently the number one Test all-rounder in the world, while Jasprit Bumrah is the number one Test bowler. The Indian lead fast bowler was rested for the second Test against England at Edgbaston. He is likely to be back for the third Test, scheduled to be played at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, starting tomorrow.
