End of the road for Kuldeep Yadav in T20I cricket? Check details

Recently, BCCI announced India’s T20I team for the Ireland & England tour and the Asian Games 2026 as well. Shreyas Iyer became the new skipper of the T20I team, while Tilak Varma will be his deputy. World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav has not only been removed from the captaincy but also dropped from the team. Apart from him, Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Jitesh Sharma, and Kuldeep Yadav’s names were also omitted from the list.

It is clear that Hardik Pandya will now only play in ODIs, considering the upcoming ODI World Cup, set to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in 2027. While Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma's recent form has not been very special, they have not been given a place in the T20I team.

However, Kuldeep Yadav also did not find a place in the T20I team, after which it is being speculated that his T20I career is now over. He did not make much impact in the recently concluded IPL 2026 either, taking only 10 wickets in 12 matches while conceding runs at an economy of 10.29. He also got to play only one match in the T20 World Cup 2026.

Ravi Bishnoi has been given a chance for the upcoming cricket series of the shortest format, making it clear that Kuldeep is unlikely to get a chance in the upcoming T20I series. However, he is still a regular part of the Test and ODI squads. He is currently playing the Test match against Afghanistan and is also included in the ODI squad starting June 13th.

Now it remains to be seen whether Kuldeep Yadav can make a return to the T20I squad in the future, especially since his recent performance has not been particularly impressive. Varun Chakraborty was also named the first-choice spinner in the ODI team for the Champions Trophy 2025. Kuldeep has been struggling in Tests lately, which has been a major reason for the Indian Test team's recent struggles.
