The English media and fraternity have the tendency to hold their opinions and approach in high regard, irrespective of the result their belief bears. Bazball is yet to prove its worth. While the England Test team, under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum, have fielded an impressive record at home, an entry into the WTC Final is still out of the team's credit. Still, their aggressive style of play in red-ball cricket, famously known as Bazball, is often touted as an element that could sway the way other teams go about their game. Now, as Shubman Gill stands at the fore of India's new era in the longer format, the skipper was asked if he would adapt some elements of Bazball in his leadership.

Wait till August: Shubman Gill comes up with a sharp response to Bazball

Shubman Gill has been handed the reins of the Indian Test team after the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The young captain kicked off his leadership tenure at Leeds as the India vs England Test series opened on Friday. The England tour is a crucial juncture, a series that would provide the first glimpse of a new India team, devoid of the experience of Virat Kohli. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has the chance to leave a unique mark as the next-gen leader of the group.

Now, if Gill plays as per his values or takes a leaf out of the captaincy tenures of the likes of Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma is up to the youngster. All the fans and fraternity can do is observe the youngster over the course of the India vs England series, which extends till August. Meanwhile, as Shubman Gill addressed the press on the eve of the opening Test, the English media asked if Bazball is something that would inspire Gill's leadership style.

The young Indian captain came up with a cheeky reply to the interesting question. Not opening up much about his style of play, Gill signalled for the media to wait and watch. The 25-year-old explained that his leadership style would come out clearly once the India vs England series wraps up in August. England are touted as the favourites to win the series. Apart from the rawness in the India squad for the series, the fact that the visitors have not won any Test series on English soil since 2007 also influences the anticipation.

"You're going to have to wait till August to see what kind of style it's going to be," said the Indian captain on being asked about Bazball.

On a previous occasion, Shubman Gill talked about his goals as India's Test captain. The youngster explained that his vision is to foster a secure environment for the crop coming up in the squad. Beyond the victories and accolades, which obviously are the priority for the group, Gill wants to nurture a positive and secure culture under his watch in the Indian Test setup. As for the match, the opening India vs England fixture started with Ben Stokes winning the toss and opting to bowl first against the visitors at Headingley.
