Dhanashree Verma claps back at Yuzvendra Chahal for his 'sugar daddy' stunt
Months after Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma divorced each other, the latter has spoken up about the entire showdown. The separation and the following divorce between the choreographer and the cricketer were 'dramatic,' to put it simply. Amid rumors of Dhanashree demanding a hefty alimony, the drama escalated when Chahal wore a T-shirt to the court hearing. Fanning the fire of the alimony chatter, Chahal's T-shirt read, "Be your own sugar daddy." The move by the cricketer was perceived as an alleged attempt to mock his ex-wife. Now, after Chahal has already explained the rationale behind his move, Dhanashree has finally reacted to the debacle.

Yuzvendra Chahal stirred buzz when he walked into his final divorce hearing wearing a T-shirt engraved with the words “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy.” The gesture instantly went viral, but it didn’t sit well with Dhanashree Verma. She later admitted that the act left her shocked, adding that if Chahal had a message to pass on, it should have been done in private rather than turning the courtroom moment into a public spectacle.
Nearly a month after Yuzvendra Chahal had opened up about their separation, Dhanashree has now spoken about the split for the first time. Chahal admitted that he wanted to send a message with his T-shirt. Now, opening up during a conversation on a podcast, Dhanashree has recounted her side of the story. The dancer revealed that the day of the final hearing was particularly overwhelming for her, as she broke down emotionally inside the court.
“I still remember when I was standing there and the verdict was about to be given. Even though we were so well-prepared mentally, I got so emotional. I started howling in front of everybody. I couldn't even express what I was feeling at that point. I just remember that I just kept crying, I was just howling and crying. Of course! All of that happened, and he (Chahal) walked out first," Dhanashree expressed.
Chahal’s choice of attire on that day once again became the talking point, overshadowing the otherwise solemn occasion. Dhanashree recounted that she got to know about Chahal's antics after she left the court hearing. Having opened up about her breakdown, the choreographer talked about realizing that it was over between her and Chahal the moment she took notice of his message. Moreover, Dhanashree also highlighted how Chahal could have just sent her a text if he wanted to convey something to her.
"You know that people are going to blame you. Before I had even known that this T-shirt stunt had happened, we were all aware that people were going to blame me for this," Dhanashree said. “Are bhai, WhatsApp kar deta. T-shirt kyun pehna hai? (You should have sent it on WhatsApp. Why wear the T-shirt?) she added."
“I sat in my car, still trying to catch my breath. Before I even realised what had happened, people began speculating about me because of that stunt. Sitting there, I felt like, ‘It’s done. It’s dusted. Somewhere, I did feel bad. Why was I even crying about this ? Then I thought, forget it, let’s just end this. That moment gave me the motivation to laugh and move on. It’s over,” she added.
The couple tied the knot in Gurugram in December 2020. However, the relationship hit a rough patch, and by June 2022, they had parted ways. On February 5, both jointly filed for divorce by mutual consent, which was legally finalized in March this year. Speculation around Dhanashree demanding a hefty ₹60-crore alimony also made rounds during the proceedings, but her family categorically dismissed the rumours through an official statement.
