Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered a huge setback as their premier pacer Mayank Yadav will not be available for the first half of the T20 tournament as he continues his recovery from a lumbar stress injury. The Lucknow Super Giants will be starting off their IPL 2025 campaign against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on 24 March, 2025 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. LSG will be taking the field this year with a new captain in Rishabh Pant who was bought at a massive price of INR 27 Crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Interestingly, Mayank Yadav was really impressive for the Lucknow Super Giants in the last edition of the Indian Premier League as he astonished even the best of batters with his amazing bowling speed. The LSG speedster has the terrific ability to clock a bowling speed of 150 kmhr on a consistent basis. Incidentally, Mayank also missed majority of the IPL 2024 season due to a back injury.

During a recent interview, Lucknow Super Giants head coach Justin Langer opened up on a rare injury incident involving Mayank Yadav which took place during the previous IPL season. He mentioned that the fast bowler accidentally kicked his toe on his bed and subsequently, suffered an infection which further increased the time in his rehab.

“Mayank, who everyone was very excited about last year, was going quite well, and then he kicked his toe on the bed. He got an infection in his toe, which has set his rehab back by about a week or two. But he's up and running. We regularly see videos of him bowling. I saw a video of his yesterday. So, hopefully, by the back end of the tournament, Mayank will be up and ready to go for us,” stated Lucknow Super Giants head coach Justin Langer in a recent interview.
