Hardik Pandya ruled out of the IND vs AFG ODI series. Check details

Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the 3-match ODI series against Afghanistan due to a low-grade quadriceps injury. This news comes a day after both Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma were declared fit by the sports science team at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. 

Actually, Hardik was battling back spasms in IPL 2026 itself, due to which he missed a few matches. He had recovered from the back spasms, but now he has suddenly suffered a quadriceps injury. It is learned that the new injury could be a result of his bowling his full quota of 10 overs at the CoE during the assessment. He was scheduled to join the squad in Dharamshala on June 11, but due to an injury, he will now remain in Bengaluru for another two weeks.

"With three weeks for recovery, there is absolutely no chance of him playing the ODI series as his rehabilitation will not be complete," said a BCCI source. 

"There has been a very late setback. He sustained a low-grade, mild quadricep sprain, causing some tenderness. It’s nothing long-term, but medical staff advised him to avoid any strain or weight-bearing for the next few days. Hardik will continue to stay in Bengaluru, consulting with CoE physios and trainers during his recovery phase," a BCCI official said. 

Hardik Pandya's exclusion from the series is a major blow to Team India. Before Pandya, Virat Kohli is also missing the series due to a hamstring injury. Team India will begin its preparations for the ODI World Cup 2027 with the Afghanistan series. Yashasvi Jaiswal's name has been announced as Virat Kohli's replacement; however, Hardik Pandya's replacement has not been announced yet.

The India vs Afghanistan 3-match ODI series begins on Saturday in Dharamsala, followed by games in Lucknow and Chennai on June 17 and 20, respectively.
