Many former Indian cricketers took to their ‘X’ accounts to celebrate India’s emphatic performance in the Test series against England. Amidst all, one of Irfan Pathan’s tweets sparked attention and received mixed reactions from the fans. Following India’s six-run win over England in the fifth Test at the Oval, the former all-rounder shared a series of tweets, highlighting individual performances. One of those tweets, however, received a lot of eyeballs, getting close to 1000 comments.

Through his tweet, Irfan Pathan highlighted the constant reminder that players come and go, but the game always remains above all.

“This series reminds everyone once again. CRICKET DOESN’T STOP FOR ANYONE!” Pathan wrote in his Tweet.

While many fans respected Pathan’s opinion, some began speculating that his tweet was a subtle dig at a particular cricketer. While some believed it was aimed at Virat Kohli, others thought it was directed at Jasprit Bumrah.

Here are some of the reactions:

Notably, Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket on 12th May before the start of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, while Jasprit Bumrah played only three out of five Tests in the series.

Irfan Pathan’s special praise for Shubman Gill

Irfan Pathan also lauded Shubman Gill’s leadership in the Test series vs England. The England five-match Test tour was Shubman Gill’s first assignment as India’s Test captain. Under his captaincy, the Indian team showcased a marvellous performance and ended up levelling the series 2-2.

In his tweet, Pathan hailed Shubman Gill’s massive growth as a leader in just one overseas tour.

“Shubman Gill went to England as a boy, coming back as a leader of men.”, Pathan wrote on X.

Shubman Gill led the team not only as a captain but also as a batter. He finished the series as the highest run-scorer with 754 runs in five matches at an average of 75.40, including four hundreds.
