Cheteshwar Pujara reveals Bumrah’s biggest strength — and it’s not his action or angle
It is safe to say that Jasprit Bumrah is currently the best fast bowler in the world across formats. Bumrah has become a force to be reckoned with and a nightmare for the batters, no matter which format they play him. The Indian fast bowler knows how to adapt and rules the 22-yard with both red and white balls. Jasprit Bumrah has put England on the back foot whenever they have come out to bat in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar trophy. His presence in the Indian bowling attack is so valuable that every Indian cricket fan and pundit wants him to play every Test match, despite knowing that his body doesn’t allow him. That’s the impact Jasprit Bumrah makes in every match with the ball in hand.
Ahead of the fourth Test match against England, India’s Test veteran Cheteshwar Pujara spoke highly of Bumrah. While praising his skill-set, Pujara gave insight into Bumrah’s biggest strength. According to the former, Jasprit Bumrah’s biggest strength is his cricketing brain, which he developed in the Indian Premier League while spending time with former MI fast bowler Lasith Malinga.
In his BBC Column, here’s what Cheteshwar Pujara wrote about Jasprit Bumrah:
“Most people talk about Bumrah’s skills with the ball, his angle or his action, but his biggest strength is often overlooked,” said Pujara in his BBC column.
“He has a brilliant cricket brain, which comes from his time in the IPL. There he worked with people like former Sri Lanka bowler Lasith Malinga and has gained the skills to outsmart a batter.
“His first instinct is always to bowl his best ball, but if a batter gets in, he knows all of their strengths and weaknesses. He has taken the skills from white-ball cricket to become the complete Test bowler.” Pujara wrote.
Bumrah is the second-highest wicket-taker in Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025
Despite playing two Tests out of three played so far in the ongoing England series, Jasprit Bumrah has managed to pick the second-most number of wickets. In 2 Tests, he has picked up 12 wickets at an average of 21. Siraj, sitting at the top of the ladder, has just one wicket more than Bumrah- 13. Jasprit Bumrah picked a five-wicket haul in the first Test but went wicketless in the second innings. He was rested for the second Test match but made a comeback in the Lord’s Test.
He again picked a five-for in the first innings and followed it with two wickets in the second innings. If reports are to be believed, he will be playing the fourth Test, starting tomorrow.
