Pakistan became the 8th team to secure their qualification for the Super 8. They defeated Namibia by 102 runs at Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), Colombo. With Pakistan’s qualification, all 8 teams have been confirmed for the second round of the tournament - Super 8. Group 1 consists of defending champions India, runners-up South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the West Indies. It should be noted that the ICC has already pre-seeded the teams.
India has been marked as “X1,” and they were kept along with the West Indies, Australia, and South Africa in the Super 8 stage. The West Indies and South Africa have also qualified for the Super 8. However, Australia was eliminated from the group stage. They lost against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Zimbabwe is replacing them in Super 8. Whereas in group 2, there are teams from Sri Lanka, England, New Zealand, and Pakistan.
A total of 12 matches have been played in the Super-8 round of the 10th edition of the T20 World Cup. Every team will play 3 matches. The top 2 teams of both groups will advance to the semi-finals. This round will run from February 21 to March 1. The first match of the Super 8 round will be played between New Zealand and Pakistan at R. Premdasa Stadium, Colombo.
Team India will start their Super 8 campaign against South Africa at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on February 22. After this, India will face Zimbabwe on February 26 at M.A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai and West Indies on March 1 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. All group 1 matches will be held in India, while group 2 matches will be organised in Sri Lanka.
