Recently, Bobby Deol shared an interesting coincidence regarding Shubman Gill. According to him, he has met Shubman Gill twice so far, and on both occasions, Gill went on to score a double century. Shubman Gill has one double century each to his name in both ODI and Test cricket; he scored his ODI double century against New Zealand in Hyderabad in January 2023, while he scored his Test double century against England in Birmingham in 2025. Bobby Deol mentioned;
“I shook hands with Shubman Gill, and next day I knew he scored a double century. The story doesn’t end here. Last year (2025), I was in London, and I was stood in my hotel, and suddenly, I see Shubman walking. So, I just shook hands with him. I said, you doing really good and all the very best. And next thing, we know he scored a double century again.”
Hearing this, the anchor remarked that Bobby was quite lucky for the current Indian captain.

Shubman Gill was entrusted with the captaincy of the Test and ODI teams just last year. He recently led the ODI team during the tour of England, where the side faced a 1–2 series defeat. However, Gill was the highest run scorer for India, scoring 188 runs in 3 innings, including 2 half-centuries. Despite a magnificent performance, he missed becoming the No. 1-ranked ODI batter by just a point. He is currently ranked second with 801 ratings, trailing New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell (802) by one point.
Gill is now set to lead India’s Test side in the upcoming two-match Test series during the tour of Sri Lanka, which begins on August 15.
A look at Shubman Gill’s international career double hundreds
As earlier mentioned, Shubman Gill scored his first international double century in an ODI match against New Zealand at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad in 2023. In this match, he scored 208 runs off 149 balls, hitting 19 fours and 8 sixes.
His Test double ton came against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham in 2025. This was Shubman Gill’s first international series as regular captain. In this match, he scored 269 runs in 387 balls, including 30 fours and 3 sixes.
