Bhuvneshwar Kumar expresses his views on a potential International comeback

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been out of the Indian team for a long time; he was last seen wearing the 'Blue Jersey' during the 2022 T20 World Cup. Fans had all but given up hope for his return. However, observing the recent state of the Indian bowling attack—and with the ODI World Cup scheduled for next year—fans are now consistently calling for his comeback. This sentiment is further fueled by his exceptional bowling in the last two editions of the IPL, where he played a pivotal role in helping RCB win back-to-back titles.

Recently, while participating in the UP T20 League, Bhuvneshwar was asked about a potential comeback; he stated that he wasn't playing in the league to secure a selection elsewhere, but simply because he wanted to play. He made it clear that a return to the Indian team is not in his hands but depends on the selectors.

"I haven't come to play in the UPT20 League because I want to get picked somewhere or move to another level. I'm playing simply because I want to play," he said. He made equally clear that judging his readiness for higher honours is not his concern. "How prepared I am is not for me to decide; the rest is the selectors' call," said Bhuvneshwar. 

Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed a total of 28 wickets for RCB in IPL 2026, following a haul of 17 wickets in IPL 2025. Thanks to his brilliant bowling, RCB secured their first title after 17 years and successfully defended it this year.

As for what the senior and veteran players are saying, that's their opinion. For me, I enjoy playing, and I love cricket. My job is only to play, and I'm here for the UPT20 League. How prepared I am is not for me to decide; the rest is the selectors' call," he continued. 

"I'm here to play, and that's what I'm doing. My job is to play cricket; judging how prepared I am isn't something that I focus on." 

His outstanding performance makes him a strong contender for a return to the national team, yet he reiterated that selection is beyond his control. He clarified that he is not looking too far ahead and is focusing on one series at a time.

"There’s still plenty of time, and a lot of cricket to be played before that. I can’t say right now whether I’ll play first-class cricket or not, but I aim to keep playing as much cricket as I can," he said. 

It will be interesting to see if the team management considers Bhuvneshwar for the West Indies series. Bhuvi's experience could greatly benefit Team India, especially with Jasprit Bumrah currently sidelined due to injury.
