India’s fast bowler Akash Deep hit his maiden half-century on the most difficult wicket in the ongoing five-match Test series between India and England. Coming in as a night-watchman just at the stroke of stumps on day 2, Deep played a well-timed four on the very first ball he faced. The third day morning saw him play some wonderful shots to lead India’s fightback. Being a fast bowler, his defense can’t be as good as a top-order batter, but when he smacks the ball, it’s certainly a delight to watch. The Indian players sitting in the dugout were enjoying every four that he hit as India’s lead grew stronger.

Akash Deep scored as many as 11 fours on day 3 as he notched his maiden fifty in Test cricket. Although he had two lucky escapes, Deep ensured he capitalized on that. He reached his fifty after creaming one through the leg-side, which saw Indian players cheer in delight. Gautam Gambhir, known for his keen eye for talent, also flashed a rare but genuine smile.

Meanwhile, fans on ‘X’ have been highly impressed with Deep’s batting skills, with numerous tweets celebrating his knock. Some have even taken the opportunity to share memes.

Here are some of the best memes with regard to his knock:

Akash Deep eventually got out on 66 off 94 balls, a knock which was laced with as many as 12 fours. He stitched a 107-run partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal, which is also the highest partnership in the match so far. Courtesy of that partnership, India have taken a lead of 213 runs at the time of writing with five wickets in hand.

While Deep scored a half-century, he could manage only 1 wicket with the ball, returning with the spell of 1 for 80 in 17 overs. Earlier, India were bowled out for 224 runs in the first innings, with Karun Nair top-scoring for 57 off 109 balls. Indian bowlers, led by Mohammed Siraj, brought India back into the game.

From 129 for 2, England were bundled out for 247. Yashasvi Jaiswal led India’s charge in the second innings as his ton and Akash Deep’s half-century have put India in a commanding position in the Test match.
