BCCI announces revised IPL 2025 schedule. Check IPL 2025 restart date
In a big breaking news development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced that the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season will now be resuming on 17 May, 2025. Earlier, the BCCI were forced to suspend the T20 tournament for a week due to the India-Pakistan border tensions. However, the good news is that IPL 2025 will restart with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) hosting the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 17, 2025. A total of 17 matches will be played across as many as six venues in accordance to the updated IPL 2025 schedule and the grand finale will now take place on June 3, 2025. The BCCI is yet to announce the venues for the four encounters of the IPL 2025 playoffs.
The BCCI has released an official statement that they have decided to resume the 18th edition of the Indian Premier only "after extensive consultations with government and security agencies, and with all the key stakeholders." Interestingly, the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals encounter which was called-off due to a significant technical failure in Dharamshala, will also have a re-match on May 24, 2025 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
According to the latest IPL 2025 schedule, a total of six venues have been finalised by the BCCI namely Lucknow, Jaipur, Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The revised Indian Premier League 2025 timetable includes just a couple of doubleheaders, both of them taking place on Sundays (18 and 25 May, 2025). Incidentally, franchises like Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings will not get to play any home matches during remainder of the T20 competition.
The final league stage match of IPL 2025 will be played between the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 27, 2025 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. However, there is still a major concern over the availability of overseas players especially from Australia and South Africa for the remainder of the tournament. South Africa is scheduled to lock horns with Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final 2025 starting from June 11, 2025 at the Lord's. Therefore, foreign players from Australia and South Africa are unlikely to return for the IPL 2025 resumption.
