The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) eventually sacked Nazmul Hussain as Director of BBL, due to several Bangladeshi cricketers refusing to play in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League. According to the Bangladesh newspaper Prothom Alo, the BCB removed Nazmul Islam from his position in response to boycott calls and the players' toughened stance. The decision was made by the board on Thursday during an emergency meeting.

The reason behind that is Nazmul Hussain’s current remarks against their players and also on the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. A couple of days ago, after Mustafizur Rehman’s removal from the IPL 2026, he constantly demanded that venues change for the Bangladesh cricket team for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Furthermore, He said that national players should repay the large amounts of money the board spends on them and questioned why players should be paid if Bangladesh fails to qualify for major tournaments. After this, Bangladeshi players started the protest. CWAB president Mohammad Mithun said these remarks hurt the entire cricket community and demanded Nazmul’s resignation. He warned that if the demand was not met, players would stop playing, starting with the BPL.

The board was under pressure to make this choice when Bangladeshi players didn’t arrive at the stadium on time for the BPL 2026 encounter. The match between Noakhali Express and Chattogram Royals was scheduled for 1:00 PM, but neither team arrived. Several senior players and team captains, including Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mahedi Hasan, and Mithun, supported the boycott. Noakhali coach Khaled Mahmud also backed the players.

It will be fascinating to watch if the BPL action will restart soon or not. Well, Bangladesh fans and supporters will hope that the BPL returns to its regular schedule.
