Yet another face-off between India and Bangladesh on the cricket field has been left hanging in the balance. Earlier this year, the men's India vs Bangladesh white-ball series, scheduled to be held in August, was postponed. While the official reason cited was the busy international calendar of the Men in Blue, political tensions between the neighbours are believed to have influenced the proceedings behind the scenes. Now, another Bangladesh tour of India has been pushed back indefinitely. Bangladesh Women’s proposed tour, which was slated to feature three ODIs and three T20Is in December, has also been deferred.

A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official confirmed the update, noting that the board has received a formal notice from the BCCI informing them that the series will be shifted to a later window. The BCB spokesperson added that while the BCCI has assured them the white-ball fixtures will be rearranged, no fresh schedule has been outlined so far. The communication from the Indian board did not include any additional context behind the move.

Although neither board has publicly cited the reason for the change, the prevailing political climate between the two countries is believed to have influenced the postponement of the India vs Bangladesh series. Both BCB and BCCI are understood to have been assessing the situation for some time before settling on a final call.

The Bangladesh tour of India formed part of the ICC’s Future Tours Programme and carried considerable weight for India’s women’s cricket calendar. Notably, the ODIs were set to launch the new cycle of the Women’s ODI Championship for both sides. The white-ball leg was also expected to be India’s last international engagement before the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and the only series scheduled after their triumphant ICC Women's World Cup campaign. While not confirmed, Kolkata and Cuttack had been identified as the host venues.

This latest change comes on the heels of an earlier adjustment announced this year, when India’s men’s limited-overs tour of Bangladesh, originally planned for August 2025, was deferred to September 2026. At the time, the BCCI explained that the shift followed mutual discussions and was made in light of both teams’ international commitments and logistical ease. The BCB had welcomed the revised timeline, expressing enthusiasm for hosting India in 2026, with updated dates to be released later.
