The Bangladesh vs Ireland 2nd Test match, Day 3 in Dhaka took an unexpected turn when a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck, briefly halting play at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. The tremors, which were felt across large parts of Bangladesh as well as eastern India, caused a moment of panic among spectators and players alike. Play stopped for roughly three minutes before conditions were deemed safe for the match to resume. Despite the interruption and the brief scare it caused, the Test proceeded without further issues, with Bangladesh continuing to dominate after posting a commanding first-innings total.

The quake struck at approximately 10:38 am local time, right in the middle of Ireland’s second innings. According to reports, the epicentre was located near Madhabdi/Narsingdi, around 40 kilometres from Dhaka. As soon as the tremors were felt, fans rushed out of the stands, players gathered near the centre of the ground, and both teams' dressing rooms were quickly evacuated as part of standard safety measures. The media centre, a five-storey building within the stadium complex, was also cleared. Tremors were widely reported in Dhaka, Kolkata, Guwahati, and several northeastern regions of India. Thankfully, no casualties or major structural damage were reported at the venue or its surroundings.

At the moment the tremors struck, Ireland were 165 for 5 in the 56th over of their second innings. The quake lasted roughly 30 seconds, prompting umpires to halt proceedings and players to move toward the centre of the field for safety. After officials completed a quick assessment and confirmed that conditions were stable, both teams returned to the middle and play resumed. The short interruption, however, did little to shift the momentum of the match, as Bangladesh continued to maintain full control of the Test.

By the lunch interval on Day 3, Ireland had reached 211 for 7, still trailing significantly behind Bangladesh’s imposing first-innings total of 476. Lorcan Tucker stood out for the visitors, remaining unbeaten on 56 at lunch and later pushing his score to an impressive 70* before the Tea break. Stephen Doheny added a well-made 46, while Jordan Neill provided steady support with an unbeaten 24.

For Bangladesh, Taijul Islam struck immediately after the resumption of play, picking up two quick wickets and finishing the session with three in total. Left-arm spinner Hasan Murad also contributed with two wickets. Earlier in the match, Bangladesh’s innings was powered by superb centuries from Litton Das, who scored a fluent 128 off 192 deliveries, and Mushfiqur Rahim, who celebrated his 100th Test with a landmark 106 off 214 balls, becoming the first Bangladeshi to mark the milestone with a century.
