Ball-tampering allegations surface against Ashwin in TNPL
In a shocking update emerging from the Tamil Nadu Premier League, former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been accused of ball-tampering. The seasoned Indian pick recently wrapped up IPL 2025 with Chennai Super Kings. Following the season's conclusion, Ashwin joined the Dindigul Dragons squad to lead the team in the ongoing TNPL season. Ever since the commencement of the season, Ashwin has managed to remain in the headlines for his on-field antics. However, the allegations cropping up now have taken a dark turn.
Madurai Panthers accuse Ravi Ashwin of tampering the ball during TNPL clash
According to a recent report, the Siechem Madurai Panthers have accused Ashwin and his team, Dindigul Dragons, of tampering with the ball during their match in Salem. The details explain that Madurai has alleged that Ashwin used a chemically-treated towel to rub the ball, making it heavier. Moreover, the team has said that the ball made a metallic sound on contact with the bat due to the tampering. The incident has been reported to be from the Dindigul Dragons vs Madurai Panthers match on June 14.
Madurai Panthers COO S Mahesh addressed a formal letter to TNPL officials, elaborating on the incident and asserting that the Dindigul Dragons repeatedly altered the condition of the ball, ignoring several prior warnings. As per TNPL regulations, owing to damp outfield conditions, each team is supplied with towels by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association to dry the ball, a process strictly permitted only under the supervision of the on-field umpires.
“A serious case of ball tampering occurred during our recent match against Dindigul Dragons. Despite repeated warnings, the Dindigul team blatantly tampered with the ball, using towels that appeared to have been treated with chemicals," Mahesh wrote.
Meanwhile, the TNPL CEO has reportedly confirmed the update. However, the Madurai Panthers have been asked to present the proofs backing their allegations. Ashwin, meanwhile, has been previously sanctioned in the season. The captain engaged in a heated argument with the on-field umpire after an LBW dismissal earlier in the season. Now, what happens next depends on the proofs provided by Madurai against the former Indian spinner.
"They have filed a complaint, which we have acknowledged. Though they have to lodge any complaints within 24 hours of the game, we have still accepted it and have asked them to furnish proof of their allegations. We will be forming an independent committee if we find there is any truth to their allegations. Without sufficient evidence, it is wrong to put forth such allegations against a player and another franchise. If they don't provide any evidence, then Madurai will face due sanctions,” TNPL CEO Prasanna has said.
