In a massive breaking news update, Team India is not playing their premier spinner Varun Chakaravarthy in the Match 12 of Asia Cup 2025 against Oman being hosted at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The Men in Blue kickstarted their campaign on a brilliant note with two fantastic victories over UAE and arch-rivals Pakistan. India have already qualified for the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025 alongside Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Why is Varun Chakaravarthy not playing India vs Oman Asia Cup 2025 clash?
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav came out with a surprising mindset as there were some changes in the India playing XI for their third Asia Cup 2025 clash against Oman on Friday. Although, Suryakumar forgot naming the second change, Varun Chakaravarthy has been rested for this match against Oman. Incidentally, the mystery spinner has picked up a couple of wickets so far in this T20I tournament, taking a wicket each in the matches against UAE and Pakistan.
Interestingly, Varun Chakaravarthy claimed the No.1 position in the ICC T20I Rankings for bowlers, just a few days ago. He has taken an impressive total of 35 wickets from 20 T20I matches at a superb economy of 6.83. Team India have rested both their premier bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakaravarthy for this match and the pace duo of Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana have been included in the India playing 11.
"We are looking to bat first. We have not batted first in this competition and we want to know our depth. Having game time is important going into the Super 4s. We want to continue the good habits we are doing in the first two games and want to continue to do that. It is looking nice and our openers will assess it further. We have two changes - Harshit comes in, one more guy comes in, I have become like Rohit (laughs)," stated Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav.
