Anshul Kamboj added as cover in India’s squad for England Tests - Reports
Indian fast bowler Anshul Kamboj has been added to India’s squad as cover for Arshdeep Singh for the fourth Test match against England in Manchester. For the unversed, Arshdeep has been ruled out of the Manchester Test as he has suffered a deep cut in his bowling hand. He tried to stop a ball hit by Sai Sudharsan during a net session on Thursday but ended up injuring his bowling hand.
As per a report published in the Indian Express, Arshdeep Singh isn’t likely to be fit for the fourth Test match, which kicks off on 23rd July 2025. Anshul Kamboj has been picked into the squad on the back of some telling performances in two three-day matches in England last month. The 24-year-old picked five wickets in two games, catching attention with his disciplined lengths and tight lines. Overall, he has picked up 69 wickets in 24 first-class matches for Haryana.
“Arshdeep has a deep cut and has had stitches, he will take at least ten days to get completely fit. The selectors have decided to add Kamboj in the squad,” a BCCI source said.
Injuries have brought tension in the Indian camp. Amidst the talks behind Jasprit Bumrah’s workload management, Akash Deep’s availability for the fourth Test match has also been under scrutiny. Akash Deep has picked up a groin injury and wasn’t part of the net session conducted by the Indian team before departing for Manchester. Arshdeep Singh was in line to make his Test debut for India in Manchester. However, his injury has ruined his chance of donning the white jersey.
“Arshdeep took a ball while he was bowling there, Sai hit a ball and he tried to stop it and it’s just a cut. So we have to see how bad the cut is. Obviously, the medical team have taken him off to see a doctor and obviously, if he needs stitches or doesn’t need stitches, it’s going to be important to our planning for the next few days.” India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate had said.
Meanwhile, there has been no confirmation over Rishabh Pant’s availability for the Manchester Test. He was struck on his index finger while keeping in the third Test match. He was seen in pain while batting on the fifth day of the Test match. Indian Skipper Shubman Gill assured in the press conference that he will be fit for the Manchester Test, but there has been no official confirmation as such. The fourth Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 begins on 23rd July at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester. England currently lead the Test series 2-1.
