Abishek Porel faces legal trouble after false marriage promise allegations

The latest complaint filed against him in Bengal includes allegations of sexual assault on a medical student from Karnataka. The FIR was filed on June 23, 2026, against him.
A medical student from Karnataka has filed a complaint against Delhi Capitals’ wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel. The woman alleges that Porel engaged in a sexual relationship with her under the promise of marriage. She lodged the complaint at the Mogra police station in West Bengal's Hooghly district, where Abishek resides and plays domestic cricket for the state team. The police have initiated an investigation following the complaint.
According to reports, the woman confirmed she had been in a relationship with Abishek for nearly three years, and the two had even planned to get married. However, some issues arose between them a year and a half ago; while the matter had reached the police station back then, no official complaint was filed at that time.
The woman arrived at the Mogra police station with her mother on June 23 and submitted a written complaint against the cricketer. Subsequently, the police began investigating the allegations and gathering details regarding the case.
Reports indicate that upon learning of the matter, Hooghly Superintendent of Police (SP) Kunar Bhushan Singh visited the police station. He reportedly discussed the next course of action with Officer-in-Charge Soumen Biswas and DSP Abhijeet Singh Mahapatra.
Police sources state that all necessary directives regarding the case have been issued, and the investigation into the allegations is ongoing. The complaint includes charges of engaging in sexual relations under the pretext of marriage, physical assault, and intimidation.
Abishek Porel has also broken his silence on the matter and denied all the allegations. He stated that the police have not yet contacted him. However, he added that he would provide a precise response only after the initial stages of the investigation are concluded.
The 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman was recently seen in IPL 2026, playing for the Delhi Capitals. He got the opportunity to play just four matches this year, scoring 108 runs.
