AB de Villiers is regarded as one of the finest batters the world cricket has ever seen. His ability to play shots all around the ground makes him a player to watch and admire by many across the world. De Villiers was adept at playing both spin and pace in all conditions, and his penchant to take on the best bowlers in the world made him a crowd favourite.

AB de Villiers is currently playing for the South Africa Champions in the 2025 World Championship of Legends tournament. In a video posted by Star Sports on their ‘X’ account, AB de Villiers named the top three batters and the top three bowlers of all time across formats. The first cricketer that came to his mind was former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis. He initially considered Brian Lara as his second pick, but, eventually, chose to name Ricky Ponting and Virat Kohli as the other two greats of all-time.

AB de Villiers then picked his best three bowlers of all-time, and the first name that came to his mind was former Pakistan swing bowler Mohammad Asif, followed by South African paceman Dale Steyn. He took a couple of seconds to think about the third one and settled with Glenn McGrath. AB de Villiers also clarified at the end that the list only considers fast bowlers and not the spinners.

Here’s the video clip of AB de Villiers picking his best three bowlers and batters of all time:

AB de Villiers-led South Africa Champions are sitting at the top of the ladder in the ongoing 2025 WCL tournament. South Africa won their first game against the West Indies Champions via a bowl-out. It was followed by consecutive wins against India Champions and England Champions. The three-match winning streak was eventually broken by Pakistan Champions with a 31-run defeat.

With three wins in four games, the South Africa Champions are sitting at the top with six points. The Proteas are scheduled to play their next match against the Australia Champions on Sunday. Meanwhile, India have only played one game and are at the bottom of the table.
