3 players who will not be available for the IPL 2025 playoffs
The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to restart with the exciting showdown between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) scheduled to take place on May 17, 2025 at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The remaining 13 matches of the league stage will be contested across six different venues, Delhi, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Mumbai. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce the venue details for the IPL 2025 playoffs. In this blog post, check out the three major players who are unlikely to be available for the IPL 2025 playoffs.
3 overseas players who will miss the IPL 2025 playoffs
1. Jos Buttler
For the Gujarat Titans (GT), the trio of skipper Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler have done the major run-scoring work so far in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. The 2022 IPL champions are currently placed the top poistion on the points table with a total of 8 victories from as many as 11 matches this season and thus, they are almost guaranteed a place in the IPL 2025 playoffs. The Gujarat Titans will be restarting their IPL 2025 campaign against the Delhi Capitals on May 18, 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Shubman Gill-led team will then be taking on the Lucknow Super Giants on May 22, 2025 and they will be playing their last league stage match against Chennai Super Kings on 25 May, 2025. Buttler who scored a wonderful tally of 500 runs from 11 matches in this tournament that includes as many as 5 fifties, is very much likely to be unavailable for the IPL 2025 playoffs due to international duties.
2. Josh Hazlewood
It was a huge positive news for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) that the T20 tournament will once again hit the centerstage on May 17, 2025 where they will be resuming their campaign against the Kolkata Knight Riders at home. RCB are currently slotted at the second spot on the IPL 2025 points table with a total of 8 wins from 11 matches so far in the ongoing edition of the T20 tournament. The 2016 finalists will then be locking horns with the Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 23, 2025 before playing their last league match against Lucknow Super Giants on 27 May, 2025. With a total of 16 points already in their kitty, RCB are almost through to the IPL 2025 playoffs. They are very much likely to miss their premier overseas fast bowler Josh Hazlewood during the knockouts stage as he might be called back as Australia faces South Africa in the WTC Final 2025 starting from June 11, 2025 at the Lord's.
3. Ryan Rickelton
The Mumbai Indians are currently placed at the fourth position on the Indian Premier League 2025 points table with a total of 7 victories from as many as 12 matches this season so far. The Hardik Pandya-led MI team will be facing the Delhi Capitals in their first match on May 21, 2025 at the Wankhdede Stadium in Mumbai with accordance to the revised IPL 2025 schedule. Mumbai Indians are scheduled to play their last league stage game of the competition against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on May 26, 2025. Mumbai Indians are very much likely to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs after winning even one out of their remaining couple of games. Wicket-keeper battter Ryan Rickelton has performed really well with the bat having scored a fine total of 336 runs from 12 games at an impressive strike-rate of more than 150 that includes as many as three half-centuries. After being named in the South Africa squad for the WTC final, Rickelton is doubtful to be available for the IPL 2025 playoffs.
