Rinku Singh not included in India squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup
3 Players Who Deserved To Be Part of India Squad For The 2024 T20 World Cup
Rinku Singh has not been included in India squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup

The biggest agenda in the cricketing fraternity at this moment is the India 15-member squad lately announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the forthcoming edition of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The T20I tournament will be starting from 2 May, 2024 scheduled to take place in the West Indies and USA. After the massive disappointment faced at the hands of Australia during the 2023 ODI World Cup final, Rohit Sharma has once again been given the responsibility to lead the national team in another ICC tournament. In this article piece, check out the three players who were quite unfortunate to miss out from the India squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

3 Players who deserved to be part of India squad for the T20 World Cup 2024

1. Rinku Singh

The biggest shocker from the Indian team announced for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup is that swashbuckling batsman Rinku Singh is part of the travelling reserves and not part of the main India squad analysis. The southpaw batsman has been a proven performer for the national team lower down the order having finished matches on a consistent basis. In his short international career so far, Rinku has smashed an impressive total of 356 runs from 15 T20I matches at a remarkable strike-rate of more than 176 that includes as many as two half-centuries.

According to the sources, he has been ignored from the 15-man squad due to his inconsistent performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season having scored just 123 runs from 9 games. However, it is also a fact that the 26-year-old batsman has not got that much opportunities as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) top-order has done the majority of the run-scoring in the T20 competition. If we talk about things working in Rinku's favour, the national selectors could have picked him in place of Shivam Dube.

2. KL Rahul

Earlier this week, KL Rahul was definitely one of the top wicket-keeping contenders to be part of the India T20 World Cup squad. However, eventually it was quite disappointing for the senior batter to be left out for the mega event. Incidentally, Rahul was part of the India T20 squad and also in the playing XI during the last two editions of the ICC T20 World Cups in 2021 and 2022 where he played as an opening batsman. But he failed miserably during the mega event in 2021 and his strike-rate came under the radar in the 2022 T20 World Cup held in Australia.

While talking about his T20I career so far, KL Rahul has scored a total of 2265 runs from as many as 72 matches at a fine strike-rate of 139.13. The right-hander has also notched up 22 half-centuries and 2 hundreds in the shorter format of the game. However, Rahul has not batted in the middle-order since a long time in T20I cricket, which worked against him and it was his slow strike-rate that brought down the highlight.

3. Ravi Bishnoi

It was very much amusing in the cricket updates that Ravi Bishnoi who is placed at the fifth position in the ICC Men's T20I rankings for bowlers, is omitted from India's squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. He was consistently part of the India T20I squad during the last few bilateral series where the right-arm legspinner proved to be a great wicket-taking bowler for his skipper. While talking about his T20I career so far, Bishnoi has picked up as many as 36 wickets from 24 matches at a fine economy rate of less than 8. He has also taken a total of 59 wickets in the Indian Premier League history in 62 games at a brilliant economy of 7.71.

The Indian selectors have picked a total of four spinners in the India squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 including the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel. It is Chahal who is a big surprise entry into the team especially after consistent performances during the last few IPL seasons as he was not part of the Indian T20I side on regular basis in the last few bilateral series. While talking about Bishnoi's form in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 season, he has picked up a total of 6 wickets from 10 games at an economy of 8.53. However, India have gone ahead with the experience of Jadeja, Kuldeep, Chahal and Axar ahead of the 23-year-old Ravi Bishnoi.
