Alireza Firouzja, an Iranian-born grandmaster now representing France, has made waves in the chess world as a two-time world championship candidate and two-time Iranian champion. His rise to prominence began in late 2019 and early 2020, when he captured attention with an impressive second-place finish at the World Rapid Championship, just one point behind reigning World Champion GM Magnus Carlsen. This was followed by a remarkable performance at the 2020 Tata Steel tournament, where he started strong with a 5/7 score.

Firouzja's trajectory continued its upward momentum in 2021. He clinched victory at the Riga Grand Swiss, scoring an impressive 8/9, and also triumphed at the European Team Championships. These accomplishments propelled him to the #2 spot in the world rankings, achieving an impressive rating of 2804. His success at the Grand Swiss earned him a spot in the 2022 Candidates Tournament, making him one of the youngest players ever to qualify for this prestigious event at just 18 years old.

In addition to his tournament achievements, Firouzja also set a record for being the youngest player to surpass a 2800 rating, further solidifying his status as a chess prodigy. With each passing year, Alireza Firouzja continues to be a formidable presence on the international chess stage, captivating fans and experts alike with his exceptional talent and determination.

In February 2018, Alireza Firouzja earned his final grandmaster norm at the Aeroflot Open, achieving the title at just 15 years old. At the 43rd Chess Olympiad, he represented Iran on board four and delivered an impressive performance, scoring 8/11. Firouzja also shone at the World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad, where he secured the gold medal with a remarkable 8/9 and a performance rating of 2736.

One standout moment from the 2018 Chess Olympiad showcased Firouzja's tactical brilliance. In a game where he orchestrated a devastating attack, he played the stunning move 21.Rxh7+, leaving the black king with no safe squares. This brilliant tactic exemplified Firouzja's ability to simplify complex positions and make difficult attacks appear effortless. Alireza Firouzja is currently representing the Triveni Continental Kings in the second edition of the Global Chess League.
